1. What exactly is this Bonnen 72V 346AH battery system?
This is a complete, high-capacity power system for your electric boat. It’s made of two 72V 173AH LiFePO4 batteries connected in parallel to give you a total of 72V and 346AH. Think of it as the main “fuel tank” for your electric motor and all your boat’s electronics.
2. How much time on the water does 25.5KWH actually give me?
While the exact time depends on your motor, speed, and conditions, 25.5KWH is a massive amount of energy. For most pontoon and day cruising boats, this system is designed for long, full-day trips on the water. You can explore further and worry less about heading back to the dock to recharge.
3. Will this system work with my electric motor?
This system is designed to be compatible with popular 72V marine motors. It’s an excellent match for brands like Elco Motor Yachts, Aquamot, Krautler, and Momentum Electric. If you have a different 72V motor, it will likely work perfectly, too.
4. What does “IP67 waterproof” really mean? Can it get splashed?
Absolutely. An IP67 rating means the battery case is completely sealed against dust and can handle being submerged in up to 1 meter (about 3 feet) of water for 30 minutes. Splashes, rain, and heavy spray are no problem at all. Your battery is well-protected.
5. Why use two batteries in parallel instead of one giant one?
This setup provides better reliability and safety. If one unit were to have an issue, the other can still provide power. It also allows for more stable power delivery under heavy load, ensuring your motor gets the consistent energy it needs for top performance.
6. Do I still need a separate 12V battery for my fish finder and lights?
No, you don’t! That’s one of the best features. This system has a built-in 12V DC output that provides 40A of power. You can run your GPS, fish finder, LED lights, stereo, horn, and other 12V accessories directly from your main battery bank, which simplifies your boat’s wiring.
7. I’ve heard lithium batteries can be unsafe. Is this system safe for my family and my boat?
Yes, it’s extremely safe. We use LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry, which is the most stable and safest type of lithium battery available. It’s not prone to overheating like other types. Plus, our built-in Battery Management System (BMS) constantly monitors the battery and protects it from any potential issues.
8. How much lighter is this system compared to my old lead-acid batteries?
While the exact weight savings depends on your old setup, a LiFePO4 system like this is typically 50-70% lighter than a lead-acid battery bank of the same capacity. This weight reduction can improve your boat’s speed, handling, and overall efficiency.
9. Can I use this battery system for my pontoon boat?
Yes, this system is perfect for pontoon boats. The high capacity is ideal for powering a full day of cruising with family and friends, and the integrated 12V output is perfect for running a stereo, lights, and all the other accessories common on pontoons.
10. What is a “BMS” and why should I care?
The BMS, or Battery Management System, is the battery’s onboard computer. It’s a critical safety feature that you don’t have to think about. It automatically protects the battery cells from being over-charged or drained too low, and it also guards against short circuits and high temperatures. It ensures your battery has a long, safe life.
11. What kind of maintenance does this battery require?
Virtually none. Unlike old lead-acid batteries, there’s no need to check water levels or clean terminals. Just keep the battery charged and enjoy your time on the water.
12. How many years can I expect this battery system to last?
LiFePO4 batteries have a very long cycle life ⇱. You can expect this system to last 5-10 times longer than traditional lead-acid batteries, often providing thousands of charge/discharge cycles. It’s a long-term investment in your boat.
13. Does the aluminum case hold up in marine environments?
Yes. The aluminum alloy case is chosen for being both lightweight and highly resistant to corrosion, especially in freshwater and saltwater environments. It’s ruggedly built to handle the bumps and vibrations of being on a boat.
14. My boat has custom space requirements. Can you build a battery to fit?
Yes. As the manufacturer, Bonnen Battery can design and build custom battery solutions. If you have specific dimensions or unique requirements for your boat project, you should contact us to discuss a custom build.
15. How do I charge the system?
You will need a compatible 72V LiFePO4 battery charger. The charging time will depend on the charger’s output amperage. We can recommend a suitable charger that matches the system for safe and efficient charging.
